Who edits your wedding photos?

A dedicated post-production team edits every wedding at The Indi Collective. The photographer who was with you on the day hands the files to that team, which handles the culling, color, and retouching work behind every gallery. That team is made up of full-time staff rather than editors brought on per wedding, and most of them have been with The Indi Collective for about five years.

That structure exists because photography and editing are two different crafts. Being present for a wedding day — reading the light, anticipating a moment, directing a family group — draws on different skills than editing thousands of frames into a cohesive gallery afterward. Separating the two lets each be done well.

The post-production team works across every region The Indi Collective serves, supported by a national network of editors. Your gallery is built by people whose job is specifically editing, working from what your photographer captured and applying The Indi Collective’s own established editorial standard consistently across every gallery.

Does your photographer edit your own photos personally?

Editing is handled by our dedicated post-production team, working to The Indi Collective’s own established editorial standard, once your photographer’s role on the wedding day is complete.

This is intentional: it is how every gallery, from every region and every lead photographer, meets the same recognizable Indi Collective look, and it is why our executive team stays personally and actively involved in reviewing that standard across every region and every lead photographer.

How are your photos edited to a consistent style?

By following one brand-wide editorial standard, applied consistently by the post-production team. Before your gallery is edited, the post-production team works from The Indi Collective’s established color, contrast, and tone guidelines and applies them consistently across every image in your gallery.

That standard is what makes a gallery feel like one cohesive story, image after image. A ceremony photo taken in harsh midday light and a reception photo taken under string lights should still feel like they belong to the same wedding once editing is finished. The same standard carries across your engagement or portrait session and your wedding gallery, which is also why couples who book with different lead photographers still recognize the same Indi Collective look.

You also see that standard applied to your own wedding before it is applied to all of it. A preview set is edited first and sent to you to look at. If you want it lighter, warmer, cooler, or adjusted in any other way, those changes are made and the set comes back to you — up to two rounds. Most couples approve the first pass, and where there is feedback it is usually settled on the second. Only once you have signed off on the look does the rest of your gallery get edited.

Who oversees post-production quality?

Our executive team, directly and personally involved. The specific edits on your gallery are carried out by the post-production team, working to The Indi Collective’s established editorial standard, and our executive team is actively involved in reviewing galleries against that standard rather than setting a policy once and stepping away.

That hands-on involvement is why the quality bar stays consistent across every season and every volume of weddings being edited in a given month. A gallery delivered in April is held to the same standard, reviewed by the same leadership, as one delivered in October.

How long does wedding photo editing take?

Editing is the largest part of your delivery window, and it is why most wedding galleries take about two months to reach couples, with some taking up to about four. Culling, color correction, and retouching happen frame by frame, and a gallery that needs more retouching simply takes longer to edit well.

Film adds a separate editing process on top of photography — audio, pacing, and color grading a wedding film is its own craft, which is one reason collections that include film tend to sit at the longer end of the typical range.

What retouching is included?

Retouching is part of the editing process on every Indi Collective gallery, and it is genuine hand work rather than a filter applied across the board. Detailed retouching addresses the specifics of an individual image — a stray hair, a distracting background detail, a wrinkle in fabric that catches the light awkwardly — one frame at a time.

Because it is done by hand, the amount of retouching a gallery needs varies from wedding to wedding, and that variation is one of the real reasons delivery times differ between couples. A gallery that needs a lot of retouching takes longer than one that needs very little.

Is skin retouching included?

Yes. Skin retouching is included as part of the standard editing process for every wedding gallery, alongside detailed retouching more broadly. It is treated as a standard part of finishing every gallery.

Like other retouching, it is done frame by frame rather than through a single automated pass, which is part of why it takes real time. The goal is a natural result consistent with The Indi Collective’s established editorial standard.
